Drunken Sailor Chocolate Cake by Herritott Grace

Herriott Grace is a father-daughter venture with a unique set-up. According to the website, "Lance and Nikole Herriott live 4606 kilometers apart: his workshop is in Victoria, British Columbia, and her studio is in Toronto, Ontario. Back in 2008, when Nikole first made her home more than halfway across the country, they started to send packages back and forth." They sell hand-made wooden objects from salvaged wood, as well as porcelain, stoneware and more.

In their blog, they share beautiful recipes, often from books and featured in beatiful vessels they sell in their online store. In this post, they give us a "Drunken Sailor Chocolate Cake," which includes bittersweet chocolate and rum. Yum! Herriott Grace offers this recommendation for enjoying this beauty: "Serve this cake late at night, with eight to ten spoons. No plates."

Ingredients:

  • 6 oz bittersweet chocolate, chopped
  • 10 T unsalted butter
  • 3/4 dark rum
  • 4 eggs, separated
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 t kosher salt
  • 8 oz bittersweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1 cup heavy cream
