Amy Tausk is the founder & owner of Swoon Interiors, a full-service Interior Design firm based in the suburbs of Chicago.
This is a former task desk that the family would pass every time they (or anyone) entered the kitchen. It wasn't particularly useful, because the family had another dedicated office elsewhere in the house, so this became a "drop zone" for mail, paperwork and junk. Amy's team transformed it into a wet bar as part of the whole kitchen redesign in 2017. According to Amy's blog, "With beverage and wine refrigerators and beautiful glass front cabinetry, it is now so much more useful to the family and a more lovely way to enter the kitchen. The warm wood planks were stained to coordinate with the island and wood beam above the stove niche. I love mixing metals -so this little area was a great place to play with antique brass hardware and accents."
Amy's team lightened, brightened and streamlined the look and function of the kitchen and the main rooms that connect to it. She punched out two doors on either side of the range to create more access points to the kitchen, (see first link below) and added a walk-through pantry area just off the kitchen, which may be my favorite part of the whole project (see second link).
