Burton snowboards are handmade with 5 FSC-certified wood cores, an aluminum mold, layers of fiberglass and now bio-based eco-friendly epoxy. With athletes like Chloe Kim and Shaun White, Burton is the most beloved snowboard maker in the business, turning out trusted and stylish boards since 1977.
Also in 2003, founder Jake Burton Carpenter made a concerted effort to increase gender diversiy in his company and in his outreach to riders. From the Burton website, "In 2003, women made up less than 10% of our leadership team. Today, the number is over 40%. CEO Donna Carpenter created The Women’s Leadership Initiative in 2004, and a lot has been accomplished since then: mentoring programs, organized career development, generous paternity policy, and of course, women’s ride days. In 2017, Donna brought every employee that felt inclined to the Women’s March in D.C., all expenses paid. Gender equity at Burton can be traced back to 1982, when the Burton US Open was established with equal prize money for men and women."
